The Silent Stance

It’s raining through the darkness
Of an elongated night
I’m waiting for a tram
It’s late but it’s alright
Under my umbrella
I’m here
I’m not at home
I’m not moving any closer
It’s okay to stand alone

The orange street lights do that thing where they merge into the air
It’s not especially pretty
But I’m glad that it is there
It is silent
Except for the rain
No voice
No ringing from my phone
I’m not standing here by choice
It’s okay to stand alone

I know
You think it too
There’s others waiting for a ride
On the platform
There’s a man and a lady
Standing side by side
I think we need to talk
If I’m ever to get home
It’s not just you
It’s us
It’s okay
We’re stood silently alone
