On Cold Ears

There’s a chilly pleasantness
A kind of frosty fascination
Bells and bops
Syntactic solos
Poems and faith,
A tree and Nelson
A harsh chill from the West End
As the American woman snaps up everything
Scarves and gloves
And medieval melodies
And I’m too cold,
I’m going home
