In other news, you are now able to run out and buy me in print in a lovely little independent music magazine called DRUNKEN WEREWOLF. Unfortunately, you are only able to actually run out and buy it if you live in Bristol. Soz forever. But all is not lost - as ever, I am only a mouse click away. I've also got an article about David Lynch's new album over on an award-winning (I think) internet music e-zine called GOD IS IN THE TV.
I know what you're thinking - 'Shit! Isn't that a crazy shocking late nineties rock metal song by one Marilyn Manson??!'
Well yes, it is. But it is also the name of this very informative musical (online) publication.
Breeze by, enjoy, stay for the night if you want.
Long before Lady Gaga was marrying the night or whatever, Marilyn Manson was using visual and audio shock tactics and fishnet stockings in order to divisively anger and excite the music loving masses. In tribute to subversion in pop culture and this wonderful zine, here is Manson's promo video for The Fight Song. Apparently American footballers have always been musical. Who'd a thought it.
And who doesn't love a creepy half-naked military-hatted man in lipstick?
This is me doing Gaga at Halloween. Note the effort on the hair-phone. Dedication mate.
Still too gorged on Christmas to think clearly about anything worth while I have opted for a sort-of-video-mood-board-comedy-post-thing instead. In honor of MY FRIEND who went to see Lady Gaga at the O2 Arena and got stranded in London due to That Which I Will NOT Mention Even Though I Am British So I HAVE To Talk About It, this is a little Hall of Gaga Emulation. The video in question is of course Telephone, which, as soon as it was released earlier this year prompted endless, ENDLESS debate and video appraisal, with sardonic copies popping up all over the place, some, in my opinion, better than the original.
So sit back, pick one, and enjoy a New Year of Gaga parodies, each one ringing with the terrifying promise of yet more and more from the kaleidoscopic pop cauldron she is brewing in her ironic, sexed-up castle in the Manhattan mountains.
First, the amazing Filipino parody that prompted this post. The scale almost rivals the original, if not in scope then in dedication. They have loads more HERE, all as unintentionally hilarious.
This one is a genuinely good reworking of the song. Pomplamoose Music are getting quite big ever since the CAR AD.
Bored and perky American teens spoof Gaga and Chatroulette in one foul musical swoop. They also do a mean Alejandro Beatbox HERE.
I cannot prevent my embarrassing love of Glee popping up everywhere:
This one's just like - whatever, I need another green triangle from the box of Roses.
And just in case you forgot what the original looked like:
I can't get this song out of my head and then Glee went and cemented it in there solidly for the next few weeks. Now I don't even know which one I prefer any more. Well, ain't that some shit?
As with much of Glee, I love it and cringe at it in equal measure. I feel like I should be the quota the show is aiming itself at - only, maybe five years ago. Know what I mean? Although the new kid played by the star of a low budget stage Harry Potter musical, Darren Criss, is enough to keep me watching. If only boy's private schools really were like this...
HOLLA! Glee's Mark Salling hits Laguna Beach on spring break in GQ's June Issue. Well, he does have some sick abs to show off.
Anyone else getting a whole Katy Perry Teenage Dream kind of vibe? Coinkidink??
I actually quite like them. I even like his 'ahh yeeeaaah!' expressions. The muted tones and beachy scenery remind me of the promo video for Cat Power's He War. Which I'm sure is slightly off the wall for Katy Perry. Uh oh! The sick ab stakes have just been raised. Looks like Mr Schue wants in on the fashion shoot eye-candy as he poses in these pictures by Mikael Jansson for Vogue, reminiscent of a very different but equally nostalgic summer holiday. The Marilyn substitute is Raquel Zimmermann. Lets just hope Mike Chang gets in on the action soon.
